The Four ANIM Layers
Cognitive Appraisal gives the why, Tiny Habits the how, ANIM the meaning. Four layers build from concrete behavior to deep narrative identity:
ANIM Layer: BehavioralLayer 1: Behavioral — Building habits. Anchor, tiny behavior, celebrate. The foundation.
ANIM Layer: SocialLayer 2: Social — Connecting with others. Sharing practices, collective touchpoints.
ANIM Layer: IdentityLayer 3: Identity — "I am someone who handles pressure with clarity." The durable layer.
ANIM Layer: NarrativeLayer 4: Narrative — "This is the chapter where I stopped fighting my stress." The deepest layer.
How Narrative Integrates With This PlanNarrative Mirror (Phase 1) bypasses defensive self-assessment. Chapter Summaries at phase transitions create redemptive arcs. Narrative Position Awareness (Phases 2 & 4) adds story context to reappraisal. Celebration before Measurement prevents contamination sequences. The Helix Return (Phase 5) revisits the foundations at a deeper level — you come back to the same practices you started with, but now you understand them differently because your sense of the problem has changed. That feeling of 'I've been here before, but it's different now' is the helix working.
